Carson Bertagnole is one shot off the lead after rounds of 66 and 69 to lead the North Carolina men's golf team to a 3-under-par first day of the 2026-27 men's golf season Monday in the Visit Knoxville Collegiate at Fox Den Country Club in Farragut, Tenn.
The Tar Heels shot 2-under 278 in the morning round and 1-under 279 in the afternoon.
Carolina is five strokes back of Chattanooga and Memphis, the 36-hole co-leaders at 8 under par. Georgia is third at 7 under, Vanderbilt is 4 under and UNC is 3 under.
Bertagnole is tied for third place at 5 under par, a stroke behind Chattanooga's Evan Rogers and Yixiang Wang of Memphis.
UNC's Sihan Sandhu, playing as an individual, shot a second-round 66 and is tied for 18th at 4 under par.
Grant Roscich (70-69) is tied for 24th at 1-under 139, Misha Golod (69-71) is tied for 33rd at even par, freshman Asher Vargas (73-70) is tied for 50th at 3 over and Ethan Paschal (73-72) is tied for 63rd at 5 over.
