Paschal First Tar Heel To Shoot Consecutive 63s
October 13, 2026 | Men's Golf
Ethan Paschal became the first Tar Heel men's golfer to shoot 63 or better in consecutive rounds after Tuesday's third and final round of the Elon Phoenix Invitational at the Alamance Country Club in Burlington.
Â
Paschal finished third in the 108-player field, carding rounds of 2-over-par 73 and 8-under 63 on Monday and another 63 on Tuesday. It was his highest collegiate finish.
Â
Tom Haberer of Wake Forest won the individual title at 17-under 196 with rounds of 66-62-68. Campbell's Benjamin Killingstad was second at 16 under par.
Â
Paschal, a junior from Fayetteville, made 10 birdies and two bogeys in round three to finish 14-under 199. It was the eighth time a Tar Heel has shot below 200 in a 54-hole tournament, joining David Ford and Ryan Burnett, who did it twice apiece, Hampton Roberts, Ben Griffin and William Register.
Â
Paschal's 63s equal the seventh-lowest 18-hole rounds by a Tar Heel. He joins UNC teammate Niall Sheils Donegan, Ford and Burnett as the only players in Carolina history to ever shoot 63 or better twice but is the only player to do so in the same tournament and in back-to-back rounds.
Â
Carolina freshman Preston Hage (67-75-71) shot even-par 213 to tie for 44th place.
Â
The Tar Heels close out the fall schedule October 18-20 at Eagle Point Golf Club in Wilmington when they host the Williams Cup presented by STITCH Golf.
