Men's Lacrosse Hosting Army Saturday In Chapel Hill

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The fifth-ranked North Carolina men's lacrosse team welcomes Army tomorrow afternoon at Dorrance Field, in their final nonconference home contest of the regular season. Opening faceoff between Carolina and the Black Knights is set for 4:30 PM.

Raio, Hagerup Earn ACC Weekly Honors
• On Tuesday, the tandem of Anthony Raio and Leif Hagerup were tabbed ACC Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, following last weekend's 10-8 win versus ninth-ranked Penn State.
• Raio, a freshman midfielder for the Tar Heels, scored three goals and collected a ground ball in the winning effort. The three-goal showing was the Dix Hills, N.Y. product's first career hat trick, as Raio has scored in six games this season, including three consecutive contests.
• Hagerup posted a career-high five caused turnovers and a ground ball on Saturday, his third career game with multiple caused turnovers.
A Win Over Army Would...
• Give Carolina their fourth win over Army, the first since 1994.
• Help the Tar Heels improve their home record to 6-0 this season.
• Be Carolina's fourth ranked win of the campaign.
• Be Coach Breschi's 269th career victory and 177th win as the head coach of the Tar Heels.

• Entering Saturday, faceoff specialist Brady Wambach ranks third among active Division I players with 501 faceoff wins:

Youngsters In The Midfield
• The Tar Heel second midfield group of Luke Bair, Gary Merrill and Anthony Raio have posted a combined 20 goals and six assists this season.
• The trio is the first freshmen midfield group to play together since 2017 (Justin Anderson, Tanner Cook and Will Perry).
Gettin' Defensive
• Since the arrival of defensive coordinator Dave Pietramala prior to the 2024 season, Carolina is 20-0 when allowing nine-or-fewer goals, and 111-13 under head coach Joe Breschi during his career at UNC when giving up single-digit goals.
• This season, the Tar Heels are 5-0 when allowing nine-or-fewer goals.
Anniversary Years And Alumni Week
• In 2026, four of the five championship teams in program history will be celebrating anniversaries of their respective title seasons:
- 1981: 45-year anniversary
- 1986: 40-year anniversary
- 1991: 35-year anniversary
- 2016: 10-year anniversary
• On Saturday during Alumni Day celebration, the program will honor all five national championship programs, in addition to the teams above the 1982 title team will be recognized during halftime.
