MIDWEEK MADNESS
➤ The Tar Heels popped for a pair of midweek wins, defeating NC A&T, 9-1, and VCU, 13-3 by run-rule.Â
➤ On Tuesday, Cam Padgett and Caden Glauber led the way against the Aggies. Padgett got the start and set a strong tone, punching out three and not allowing a run in his 3.0 IP. The true freshman Glauber followed with by far his best collegiate work to pick up the win, 5.0 IP only putting one runner on base and striking out five.
➤ The runs would pour in over the back half of the contest, as the Heels put up three in the fifth and eighth to take firm control. Owen Hull and Erik Paulsen led the way with a pair of RBI singles each.
➤ Paulsen would stay hot going into Wednesday, racking up a hit in all four of his at-bats including a pair of home runs. It's the second career multi-homer game for Paulsen and the first of 2026 for the Heels.Â
➤ UNC put up a season-high 13 hits, seven for extra bases, while only striking out twice in total.Â
➤ It's the team's fourth run-rule already this season, on pace to have far more than their most ever (8, 2025).
THAT DUDE DECARO
➤ Carolina's superstar junior has carried the weight of high expectations since the then 17 year old made his first start in the first midweek of 2024 before moving into the weekend rotation by week three. Eventually elevating himself to be the Friday guy.
➤ Named a Freshman All-American with a 3.81 ERA and a 6-1 record as he helped the team to Omaha. He got the start for UNC's College World Series opener against Virginia, striking out six and giving up just one run as the Heels took a 3-2 victory.Â
➤ He was just as dominant in 2025, earning second team All-ACC honors for the second straight year as a staple in the weekend rotatation once again.
➤ The North Port, N.Y. really turned it on down the stretch. He was sensational, going 6.0 IP with just one run allowed, in an 11-1 run-rule at No. 2 Florida State. Then, two weeks later, he would outduel eventual top-10 pick Kyson Witherspoon to lead Carolina to a pivotal 11-5 win in the regional.Â
➤ He's been electric thus far in 2026. He became just the sixth Tar Heel to start back-to-back Opening Day games since 1999, picking up the win whie allowing just two hits, giving up no runs, and logging seven Ks.
➤ In week two against ECU, he tossed a complete game eight-inning shutout with seven strikeouts while only allowing five hits and one walk. Only two ECU runners even managed to reach third.
➤ It was the team's first eight inning complete game since Kent Emmanuel against Miami in May 2013 and only the second time over the last 12 seaons a Carolina pitcher has thrown eight or more shutout innings on the road (Austin Bergner, May 2019).Â
NON-CON COMBAT
➤ The Heels have compiled a 109-35-1 (.755) record in games against non-ACC opponents under Forbes. This year's squad is currently 8-1-1 out of conference.
➤ Last season, they were 25-4 against out of conference foes. The 2024 team was 24-6.
➤ Since 2020, UNC has won (or split) 13 of its 14 three-game non-conference weekend series with a 33-7-1 mark in that span.
