Bertagnole Two Strokes Back At Notre Dame

Carson Bertagnole, the defending individual medalist, is two shots off the lead and the North Carolina Tar Heels are tied for sixth after 36 holes Sunday in the Notre Dame Fighting Irish Classic at the Warren Golf Course in Notre Dame, Ind.

Bertagnole won the tournament in a playoff last season. He shot rounds of 69-68 today and is 3-under par 137. Illinois' Max Herendeen shot a 7-under 63 in the afternoon round to take the lead at 5-under 135.

Cal is the team leader heading to the final round. The Bears are at even par. Three teams – Notre Dame, Texas A&M and Illinois are tied for second place at 2 over. Georgia Southern is fifth at 5 over and the Tar Heels share sixth place with Michigan State and Purdue at 8-over 568.

UNC freshman Preston Hage, playing as an individual entry, carded a 4-under 66 in the second round to move into seventh place at 2-under 138.

Niall Sheils Donegan (68-73) is tied for 16th at 1-over 141 and Coltrane Mittag (74-69) is tied for 28th at 3-over 143.
