Bertagnole Tees Off In PGA Tour's Biltmore Championship

Carson Bertagnole is playing in his second PGA Tour event this week when the UNC sophomore competes in the Biltmore Championship Asheville at The Cliffs at Walnut Cove.

The Pinehurst native earned a spot in the PGA Tour field by finishing second in the 2026 Elite Amateur Cup Series, made up of seven of the top amateur tournaments in the country. He tied for third place in the Northeast Amateur and Southern Amateur and ninth in the Western Amateur.

He tied the Northeast Amateur record by shooting 61 in the first round. Several weeks later, he carded another 61 to open the Southern Am, breaking the course record at the Atlanta Athletic Club.

The 2026 All-ACC honoree and third-team All-America was named the Ben Hogan Award's Player of the Month in July.

He also was runner-up in the Monroe Invitational and tied for 17th in the U.S. Amateur.

Bertagnole made his PGA Tour debut in March in the Puerto Rico Open. He shot 71-76 and missed the cut but beat 13 professional players.

He finished third and 14th in two collegiate starts thus far this season.

Also in the field is Carolina's David Ford, who will be making his return to competition after missing the last five months due to injury. The 2025 National Player of the Year hasn't played on the PGA Tour since early April in the Valero Texas Open. Ford finished at or below par in six of his starts on Tour in 2026.
