Men’s Soccer Secures 3-0 Win Over Memphis

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The North Carolina men's soccer program secured a comfortable 3-0 win against Memphis at Dorrance Field on Tuesday night. The Tar Heels dominated play for 90 minutes producing 21 shots to Memphis' one.
The Tar Heels improved to (4-1-2, 0-0-2 ACC), while the Tigers fell to 1-4-3 (0-1-0 AAC).

North Carolina will host SMU at Dorrance Field on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. This will be the fourth match-up between the two sides with the current history sitting at 1-1-1. This will be the first match-up as conference foes. The Heels won the last meeting, a 2-0 victory in the third round of the NCAA Tournament in 2017.

- 10'– A nice set piece between Luca Nikolai to Andrew Czech led to a look at goal, ending with a Carolina corner kick.
- 23'- Carolina scored with a quick combination between Gabriel Bracken Serra and Nacho Abeal for the first goal of the game.
- 26'- Shot by Nacho Abeal saved by Jakob Buhrkuh which led to a second attempt by Dylan Kropp, who shot high over the crossbar.
- 28'- Strike by Bertil Rygaard Hansen stopped by Jakob Buhrkuh led to a second shot by Hansen, saved once again.
- 45'- Shot by Ryan Dugan led to a corner kick in the final 10 seconds of the half, headed slightly over the bar by Jack Sandmeyer.
- 57'- A beautiful pass by Bertil Rygaard Hansen to Gabriel Bracken Serra, set up a chance on goal but it went over the bar.
- 60'- Gabriel Bracken Serra scored off a lovely touch by Nacho Abeal for the second goal of the game, a bullet to the bottom right of the net.
- 62'- After a foul by Fletcher Hedge, a Carolina free kick by Gabriel Bracken Serra was put wide.
- 67'- Memphis' Andrew DiFalco picked up a red card leaving Memphis with 10 men.
- 86' – Riley Berge unleashed a corker from outside the box, which found the back of the net.

- The Tar Heels turned in a dominating first half performance, producing 11 shots (five on goal) compared to the Tigers zero.
- The Heels finished with 21 shots (seven on goal), while holding Memphis to just one shot.
- Andrew Cordes and the defense produced their third clean sheet of the season. Cordes was only forced into one save.

- This was the second match all-time between UNC and Memphis with the Heels holding a 2-0-0 advantage.
