Track & Field Wraps Up Day One At Duke Invitational

DURHAM, N.C. - North Carolina track and field found success on day one of the Duke Invitational on Thursday, April 10.
Tommy Kitchell (60.59m) competed as a Tar Heel for the first in the men's hammer throw and moved into seventh all-time passing Allen Bradd's 59.18m mark from 1998. Kitchell was the lone Tar Heel to advance to the finals. Kitchell secured his spot in the finals with his final throw of the first round after fouling his first two of the day, which was also his best throw.
McKynzie Mauney and Kosi Umerah both threw PRs for the third straight meet. Umerah moved into sixth all-time in the women's hammer. Gracie Bolick tied her personal best mark of 56.07m which she previously set at this same meet in 2023.
Evie Culbreath opened her first heptathlon of her college career. Her best event was the 100m hurdles, where she finished fourth. She competed in four of the seven events and sits in twelfth.
