Men’s Soccer Drops Regular-Season Finale to Duke

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of North Carolina men's soccer team fell to Duke 2-0 in the regular-season finale on Friday night at Dorrance Field. The match was tightly contested throughout the first half but Duke broke through in the 37th minute taking a 1-0 lead into halftime. Carolina pushed for the equalizer during the second half but the Blue Devils scored on a free kick in the 85th minute to secure the win.
The Tar Heels fell to 8-4-4 (2-2-4 ACC), while the Blue Devils now sit at 8-2-6 (4-2-2 ACC).

North Carolina will enter the ACC Tournament as the nine seed and will travel to South Bend, Ind. to face Notre Dame. That match will be on Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m.

How It Happened
- 23' – There appeared to be a challenge on Bertil Rygaard Hansen in the box that the referee deemed clean.
- 25' – Duke's Aleksandar Vukovic was shown yellow for kicking Callum Frogson in the stomach.
- 33' – Duke's Trevor Burns stung one at goal but Andrew Cordes tipped it on to the crossbar to keep the Blue Devils at bay.
- 37' – Duke went in front on a slithering run by Kenan Hot, whose shot beat Cordes and win off the underside of the crossbar.
- 53' – A long throw troubled the Duke defense and Gabriel Bracken Serra got a shot on goal but Duke's keeper kept it out.
- 62' – Duke's Max Simpson was shown yellow for a late challenge on Luca Nikolai.
- 81' – Jack Sandmeyer tested the keeper with a header off a Luca Nikolai free kick but couldn't beat him.
- 85' – Drew Kerr curled a free kick over the wall and into the top right corner to give Duke a 2-0 lead.
