Baseball Faces Florida State In CWS Elimination Game

OMAHA, Neb. – Fourth-seeded North Carolina will look to keep its national championship dreams alive against No. 8 seed Florida State in an elimination game Tuesday at the College World Series.
The game is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. CT and will be televised on ESPN. The winner will advance to face Tennessee on Wednesday afternoon.
This will be the first meeting between the Tar Heels and Seminoles since 2022, when UNC swept FSU at Boshamer Stadium to close the regular season.
Carolina and Florida State have met once in the College World Series, with the Seminoles winning 4-2 in 1989 to eliminate the Tar Heels.
UNC trails 39-72 in the all-time series but has won eight of the last 13 games since 2017.

OMAHEELS
North Carolina is making its 12th appearance at the College World Series and first since 2018. The Tar Heels are 19-24 all-time at the College World Series since they made their first trip to Omaha in 1960. UNC has made eight trips to the College World Series since 2006 (2006, '07, '08, '09, '11, '13, '18,' 24), second-most behind Florida's nine.

CWS ELIMINATION GAMES
North Carolina is 9-5 in elimination games in bracket play at the College World Series since 2006. The Tar Heels started 1-1 in each of their previous five appearances in Omaha and won their third game of the tournament three times (2007, 2008, 2013) while losing it twice (2009, 2018). UNC advanced to the CWS final in 2007 after losing to Rice in its second game and forced a deciding bracket title game against Fresno State in 2008.
AGAINST THE ACC IN OMAHA
The Tar Heels are 4-2 against current members of the ACC at the College World Series. Prior to its win over Virginia on Friday, UNC had beaten NC State (2013), Louisville (2007), and Clemson (2006) while suffering losses to NC State (2013) and Florida State (1989).
ONE LOSS DOESN'T BECOME TWO
North Carolina hasn't lost consecutive games since enduring a season-long three-game losing streak from April 16-19 (Coastal Carolina, NC State twice).
ADDING TO THE LEGACY
Vance Honeycutt hit his 27th home run of the season and 64th of his career Sunday night against Tennessee, adding to his UNC single season and career record totals. It was his ninth career NCAA Tournament home run, also a program record. Honeycutt has also scored a UNC single-season record 86 runs this season while posting career-highs for hits (78), doubles (12), RBIs (67), and total bases (175).

Redshirt sophomore Dalton Pence has made five appearances in the NCAA Tournament this season with a 2-0 record, two saves, and a 1.26 ERA. Pence has thrown 12.1 consecutive scoreless innings entering the game against Florida State without allowing a hit. Pence has thrown 2.0+ innings in each of his five NCAA Tournament appearances. He has a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 3:1 in the postseason (18Ks, 6BB) while holding opposing hitters to a minuscule .104 batting average.
HARBER HEATING UP
After going 2-for-7 in the Super Regional against West Virginia, Parks Harber has already collected three hits (3-for-6) with a pair of walks in the first two game of the College World Series. He was 2-for-4 Sunday versus Tennessee, posting his 26th multi-hit game of the season.
COOKIN' UP RUNS
Redshirt sophomore Casey Cook has collected 77 RBIs this season, the fifth-most in program history. He is three shy of becoming the first player with 80 RBIs in a season since Colin Moran drove in 91 during the 2013 campaign. He is second on the team in runs scored with 67.
