McGovern's Seven Points Fuels Men's Lacrosse Over High Point

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Behind attackman Logan McGovern's seven points, the No. 14-ranked North Carolina men's lacrosse team (6-3) downed High Point (6-4) 16-9, Wednesday evening at Dorrance Field.

- A back-and-forth opening quarter saw the Tar Heel lead by three after the opening 15 minutes, as the six North Carolina goals all were netted by different players.
 - After a High Point goal in the opening minute of the second frame, the Tar Heels answered with a 4-0 run over the next 10 minutes.
 - The Panthers followed to halt the streak, however back-to-back scores for UNC saw the Tar Heels hold a 12-5 edge at the halftime break.
 - A relatively quiet quarter offensively for UNC saw Lance Tillman score the only Carolina goal, as High Point outscored the home squad, 3-1.
 - In the fourth, a length of the field goal by Paul Barton and hidden ball goal by Ty English started the scoring for UNC.
 - High Point would respond with their final score on the night by Brayden Mayea, however Logan McGovern would seal the victory with less than a minute remaining, courtesy of a man-up opportunity.
 
- McGovern led all players on the night in goals (3), assists (4), and points (7).
 - 12 different Carolina players found the back of the net in the matchup.
 - Collin Loughead and Andrew Geppert both matched their career highs, with three caused turnovers each.
 - Andrew Tyeryar went 8-22 at the faceoff X, as Graham Schwartz won a career best six faceoffs.
 - Collin Krieg continued to anchor the defense, stopping 14 shots. Krieg recorded his second assist on the year and fourth of his career, on the Barton score in the final quarter.
 
- North Carolina extended their series lead over the in-state Panthers, 7-0.
 - Sean Goldsmith has now recorded a point in 48 of 50 career games at the college level, with McGovern just behind him having 42 of 44 games with a tally in the point column.
 - The seven point burst was McGovern's 15th-career game scoring five-or-more points in his career.
 - The Tar Heels improve to 142-31 under coach Joe Breschi when scoring 10+ goals, and 90-13 when allowing nine-or-fewer in the Breschi era.
 - The 14 caused turnovers was a season best for the Tar Heels, en route to allowing less than 10 goals for the eighth time in 2023.
