Gymnastics Wins Three Events In Victory At EAGL Quad Meet

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of North Carolina gymnastics team posted its highest scores of the year on beam and vault en route to placing first at the East Atlantic Gymnastics League quad meet at the Whittemore Center in Durham, New Hampshire, on Sunday afternoon.
UNC's total score of 196.275 was its second highest of the year, besting host New Hampshire (195.900), George Washington (195.375) and LIU (195.100) to remain undefeated in EAGL action at 4-0. The team improves to 9-3 overall.
The Tar Heels won three of four individual event titles: Elizabeth Culton on beam (9.950), Lali Dekanoidze on bars (9.975) and Julia Knower on floor (9.925).
After winning the floor title, Knower shared the first place spot on all-around with George Washington's Deja Chambliss. The sophomore's score of 39.425 marked the second highest of her career.
Rotation One – Beam
Carolina started the meet on beam with Culton, an All-American on the event, posting a meet-high 9.950 for a new season high, just off her career best 9.975. Gwen Fink matched her career-high 9.850 while Taylor Schulze recorded a 9.775, the highest of the season for the sophomore. Also scoring was Hallie Thompson (9.775) and Knower (9.825).
A total score of 49.175 marked the best beam rotation of the season for the Tar Heels, which was the second highest among all teams. The Wildcats led the way at 49.300 followed by the Sharks (48.875) and Colonials (48.650).
Rotation Two – Floor
Knower claimed the individual event title on floor with an impressive 9.925, her fourth overall and third-straight score of 9.925+ this season. Also scoring for the Tar Heels were Hannah Nam (9.750), Bri Greenlow (9.700), Kaya Forbes (9.700) and, making her Carolina debut, Amy Wozniak (9.650).
George Washington held the highest team score on the event at 49.175 followed by LIU (48.950), New Hampshire (48.725) and North Carolina (48.700)
Rotation Three – Vault
Carolina furthered its lead on vault with Lali Dekanoidze's 9.900 matching her career best and earning second place overall. Paige Prejean had the best performance of her collegiate career with a 9.825, as did Fink with a 9.800. Knower's season-high 9.850, which tied for third, and Greene's 9.725 also contributed to UNC's final tally.
The Tar Heels' team score of 49.100 was their highest of the season on vault, trailing the Colonials' 49.200 but ahead of the Wildcats' 48.725 and the Sharks' 48.600
Rotation Four – Bars
For the third time this year, Dekanoidze notched a 9.975 on bars to win the event and match her own school record she first set on Jan. 9. Isabelle Schaefer placed third with a stellar 9.925 to tie her career high, which ranks third all-time in program history. Knower tied her season-high for the third-straight meet at 9.825 as Culton (9.850) and Jamie Shearer (9.725) also scored.
UNC saw their second-best rotation score on the event this season at 49.300, well ahead of the rest of the field: UNH (49.150), LIU (48.675) and GWU (48.350).

Continuing their four-meet road stretch, the Tar Heels have a quick turnaround with a pair of meets next week. The team will first visit the nation's capital for a quad meet on Friday, Feb. 17, at 7 p.m. ET against Temple, Yale and host George Washington. Carolina then rounds out the weekend trip at Pitt for a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday, Feb. 19.
