Gymnastics Hits 196.325 In Win Over George Washington

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – In front of a season-high 2,750 fans, the University of North Carolina gymnastics team defeated George Washington, 196.325-195.350, on Saturday afternoon at Carmichael Arena to improve to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in East Atlantic Gymnastics League action.
For the third meet in a row, Julia Knower earned the all-around title with a score of 39.350 after winning individual event titles on beam (9.850) and floor (9.950). It marks the seventh all-around title of her career.
Rotation One – Vault
Carolina began the meet on vault with Kaya Forbes producing a team-high 9.850, which ranked second overall. Lali Dekanoidze and Knower both recorded scores of 9.825 with the latter achieving a season-best to share third place.
Also counting were a pair of 9.750s from Kate Greene and Gwen Fink, good enough for respective season- and career-highs. Carolina's team score of 49.000 was its second highest of the season to edge out George Washington's 48.975.
Rotation Two – Bars
Having posted scores of 9.825 in the past three meets, Isabelle Schaefer led the way with a season-high 9.900 on bars for the third individual title of her career. Dekanoidze, UNC's program record holder in the event, finished right behind Schaefer at 9.875.
Fink matched her career-best 9.850 to tie for third as Knower and Jamie Shearer both notched scores of 9.725. Carolina posted a collective mark of 49.075, well ahead of the 48.675 from George Washington.
Rotation Three – Beam
Knower had the highest score of the meet on beam with a 9.850. Hannah Nam had a season-best 9.825 to tie with Culton for second. Competing in just her second meet since a season-ending injury over a year ago, Hallie Thompson tallied a 9.775 as Taylor Schulze also scored for the home team with a 9.625.
Both the Tar Heels and Buff & Blue registered team scores of 48.900.
Rotation Four – FloorÂ
Carolina saved its best showing for last highlighted by Knower setting a meet-high and career-best 9.950 to jump to No. 7 all-time in Carolina history. Forbes also had a stellar showing with a 9.900 to finish second, the highest score of the freshman's career.
Culton matched her season-high 9.875 for the third-best showing of the meet. Greene had a career day of her own, setting a new personal best 9.825. Nam also matched her season-best 9.800 as UNC scored 49.350 to GWU's 48.800 for its highest floor mark of the year.

The Tar Heels will make a quick trip on I-40 E to Raleigh for the NC State Tri-Meet on Saturday, Feb. 4, where they will compete against the Wolfpack and Western Michigan. The meet begins at 4 p.m. ET at James T. Valvano Arena.
Carolina's next home meet is Friday, Feb. 24, against EAGL foe Temple at 8 p.m. inside Carmichael Arena. Admission is free and open to the public.  Â
