CHAPEL HILL - The North Carolina women's tennis program heads out of town for the next two weeks that will set up four critical Atlantic Coast Conference dual matches for the unbeaten and No. 1-ranked Tar Heels.
North Carolina (17-0, 6-0 ACC) opens its road swing with a top-10 matchup with No. 9 Miami on Friday in Coral Gables at 5 p.m. The Hurricanes enter the weekend on a run of form not seen in South Florida in six years with their program's highest ranking since being seventh in May 2016.
The Tar Heels put a 13-game winning streak over Miami (11-2, 6-1 ACC) on the line Friday from the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
Carolina boasts five singles players in the latest ITA rankings released earlier this week - No. 10 Reilly Tran, No. 12 Cameron Morra, No. 16 Elizabeth Scotty, No. 33 Carson Tanguilig and No. 34 Fiona Crawley.
The doubles team of Crawley and Scotty, the 2021 ITA fall national champions, continue to sit atop the ITA rankings yet haven't played together since February. Additionally, Alle Sanford and Tran are No. 39, while Crawley and Tran are No. 71.
Miami has a trio of ranked singles players, led by No. 46 Eden Richardson, who last week knocked off Virginia's Emma Navarro, the reigning NCAA champion, that helped her earn ACC Player of the Week honors. Daevenia Achong is No. 52, while Isabella Pfennig is No. 64.
In doubles, Achong and Richardson are No. 20, while Diana Khodan and Maya Tahan check in at No. 62.
The Tar Heels will turn their attention to Florida State on Sunday for a noon tilt at the Scott Speicher Tennis Complex in Tallahassee. The Seminoles, who will also host No. 10 Duke on Sunday, enter the weekend 8-7 overall and 2-5 in league play.
FSU, who reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Team Championship last spring in Orlando, are led by No. 15 Petra Hule and No. 118 Vic Allen and the doubles team of No. 40 Hule and Lesedi Jacobs.
