ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships Begin Thursday At Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. - The University of North Carolina track and field teams will compete at the ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships on the campus of Clemson beginning Thursday, February 22 through Saturday, February 24.
The Tar Heels will take a team of 33 individuals and four relays to the Championships held in the Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex. This is the fourth time Carolina will visit the complex this season, having already competed in the Clemson Invitational, the Bob Pollock Invitational and the Tiger Paw Invite.
The meets gets underway at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday with the women's pentathlon. The men's heptathlon begins at 12 p.m. with Will Eskew representing for the Tar Heels, and then later in the evening the men's and women's distance medley relays will take to the track.
At 6 p.m., Erin Edmundson, Jewel Christian, Blake Dodge and Caroline Alcorta will represent Carolina in the women's DMR, followed by Alex Milligan, Ryan Saint-Germain, Luke Peterson and Brodie Modini in the men's race at 6:30 p.m.
The Championships will resume Friday at 10 a.m. with the final events of the heptathlon. The field events will begin with the men's high jump at 11:45 a.m., and the running events will begin at 1 p.m. with unseeded heats of the 5,000 meters. The finals of the 5,000 meters, high jump, long jump, weight throw and women's pole vault will be contested Friday, with the majority of the track events in the preliminary stage.
The final day of the meet will resume on Saturday with the field events beginning at 10:30 a.m., and the running events at 12 p.m. The finals of the 60-meter hurdles, mile, 400 meters, 60 meters, 200 meters, 800 meters, 3,000 meters and 4x400 relays will take place Saturday, along with the triple jump, shot put and men's pole vault.

Live Streaming: ACC Network Extra will live stream action the final two days, with former Olympic decathlon gold medalist Dan O'Brien serving as color analyst, reprising the role he first filled at the 2015 ACC Outdoor Championships. He will be joined by veteran ESPN play-by-play announcer Shawn Kenney and sideline reporter Hanna Yates. Coverage will air from 3:30 p.m. through 8:30 p.m. on Friday, February 23, and from noon until the meet's conclusion (approximately 4:30 p.m.) on Saturday, February 24.

LAST TIME OUT
A small contingent of Tar Heels competed at the UCS Invitational Feb. 16-17 at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C. The women's DMR of Edmundson, Cierra Dunston, Dodge and Alcorta ran a converted 11:10.60 that ranks third in the ACC and 17th in the country.
In the women's triple jump, freshman Peighton Simmons lept for 40-7 (12.37 meters) to claim her first collegiate win, a collegiate best and a mark in the event that qualified her for the conference championships. The mark is also the fifth best in the ACC this season.
On the track, Brianna Duncan continued her winning ways, picking up her third victory on the season and second in the women's 60 meters with her time of 7.42.
On Sunday Feb. 18, Nicole Greene competed in the high jump at the USATF indoor Championships, capturing the bronze medal as she matched her personal best of 6-2 (1.88 meters). The effort at the USATF Indoor Championships only placed third behind 2016 world champion Vashti Cunningham (1.97 meters) and 2014 high jump outdoor national champion Inika McPherson (1.91 meters).
Greene earned ACC Women's Field Performer of the Week honors on Feb. 20 for her performance.
IN THE RANKINGS
Entering the ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships, the Tar Heels own 26 times/marks that rank top 10 in the ACC and six that rank in the top 25 nationally. Nicole Greene's 6-2 (1.88 meters) mark in the high jump has topped the ACC all season, and is nearly five inches higher than the next-best mark in the conference - 5-9 ¼ (1.76 meters).
