North Carolina (14-5-1) advanced to the third round with a thrilling 2-1 victory at 10th-seed Charlotte this past Sunday. Tyler Engel scored both goals for the Heels, including the game winner in the 89th minute.
Clemson fended off Coastal Carolina by an identical 2-1 score on Monday night in Clemson, S.C.
These same two teams played earlier this season in an Atlantic Coast Conference regular season match on Oct. 3 in Chapel Hill. Carolina fell behind 2-0, but stormed back and won the match on a Raby George penalty kick in the 102nd minute.
That victory began a stretch that has seen UNC post a 9-1-1 record over its last 11 matches and is currently ranked as high as No. 4 this week by TopDrawerSoccer.com.
Meanwhile, Clemson (14-6-3) is 7-0-3 since that setback at Fetzer Field in early October. The Tigers won the ACC Championship earlier this month at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.
