
Sandi Morris Sets School Record At Duke Invite

DURHAM, N.C.- Freshman Sandi Morris set a new school record in the women's pole vault to lead Carolina at Day 1 of the Duke Invitational. The two-day meet ended early Friday night because of the weather but is set to resume Saturday.
Morris jumped 14-1 1/4, the No. 4 height in the NCAA so far this season, to win the women's pole vault and break Laura Risi's record of 13-1 1/2 set in 2004. Morris also holds in the indoor pole vault record with a height of 13-5 3/4.
Senior Austin Davis and freshman Matt Valeriani also added two wins for the Tar Heel men. Davis took first in the triple jump with an NCAA top-15 distance of 50-9 1/4, and Valeriani won the 10,000 meters in 31:05.80.
The women's distance events were successful as sophomore Carter Norbo took second in the 10,000 in 36:37.09, and freshman Malia Cali finished fourth in the 5,000 in 17:20.51.
Sophomore Chris DiLorenzo improved on his personal best shot put he recorded just last week at the Florida Relays as he took third Friday in the event with 57-1.
