North Carolina Leads by One at the UNCG Bridgestone Collegiate Championship

Greensboro, N.C. - After the first day at the UNCG Bridgestone Collegiate Championship, the Tar Heels cling to a one-stroke lead over Kent State and Louisville. The first two rounds were played Monday and the Tar Heels were tied for fifth after a six-over 294 in the first round, however shot two-under 286 in the second round to put themselves at the top of the leaderboard at four over par. Kent State and Louisville both are five-over after the first two rounds. Rounding out the top-five is Memphis at seven-over and Mississippi State at 10-over par.
The Tar Heels started with a solid first round, but turned it on in the second round. Sophomore David Holzworth and senior Barden Berry are tied for fourth place at two-under par through the first two rounds. They are four strokes off the lead. Freshman Kevin O'Connell is tied for ninth place after shooting even par 72 in both the first and second round.
Senior Reed Darsie is tied for 56th at eight-over par going into the final round. Junior Robert Reisen is tied with Darsie at eight-over as well.
Derek Fathauer of Louisville leads the tournament by two strokes after firing six-under in the first two rounds. Brett Cairns of Kent State and Josh Sandman of Notre Dame are four-under and tied for second-place.
Four strokes behind the leader is the Carolina duo of Berry and Holzworth, as well as Nathan Stamey from UNC-Greensboro. Eight players are within five strokes of the lead.
The UNCG Bridgestone Collegiate Championship is being played at Forest Oaks Country Club. The tournament features eight of the top 40 teams in the nation and is being played from the Championship par-72 7197-yard course.
