Field Hockey Clinches Temple Invitational

PHILADELHPIA - North Carolina (4-1) defeated the host Temple Owls (1-3) 4-0, to clinch the 1999 Temple Invitational at Geasey Field earlier today. In the consolational game, Michigan State defeated the Cardinals of Louisville, 1-0.
Kristen McCann led the Tar Heels with two goals, both in the first period as the Tar Heels jumped out to a 3-0 half time lead. The other first half goal came from Carrie Lingo. In the second half, Abbey Martin scored the only goal of the half, as the Tar Heels took a 4-0 advantage.
The lone bright spot of the day for the Owls came from goalie Serene McGrath who had 22 saves on the day.
This marks the seventh straight Temple Invitational the Tar Heels have won.
Carolina will next be in action on Saturday, September 18, when they play host to Old Dominion. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. at Franicis E. Henry Stadium.
