Trio Of Goals Powers Field Hockey To 3-0 Shutout Win Over Louisville
October 2, 2026 | Field Hockey
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Carolina field hockey kept its momentum rolling with a decisive, 3-0 win over No. 16 Louisville on Friday afternoon in Trager Stadium.
Â
The No. 12 Tar Heels (6-4, 3-1 ACC) have been excellent defensively recently and that standard did not drop in this one. UNC only allowed three shots (one on goal) to the Cardinals and have faced just eight shots in their last three games. Reigning ACC Defensive Player of the Week Grace Pottebaum and company now have their fourth shutout of the season.
Â
Carolina outshot Louisville 20-to-3 with eight more shots on goal and nine more penalty corner opportunities. The Cardinals' defense and keeper Emily Young kept the Heels off the scoresheet in the first half, but two goals in under two minutes broke the game open in the third quarter.
Â
The first came off the stick of Ryleigh Heck. The veteran forward drove deep into the Louisville circle and fired a ball into the middle that ricocheted into the back of the net. The next came from Reese Anetsberger, who picked up a rebound from a Charly Bruder shot and finished smartly for her second goal of the season. Â
Â
Bruder played a big part in Carolina's defense, pressing from the front all game and she was rewarded for her efforts with a goal in the fourth. With Louisville attempting to clear the ball, Bruder stole possession back and made space for herself for a side net finish.
Â
Heck and Bruder are currently chasing Carolina history and with goals today both now sit inside the top-6 of career goals in program history. Heck moved into solo fifth with 69 and Bruder now sits in a three-way tie for sixth right behind her at 68.
Â
The Tar Heels face another road weekend next week with games at Saint Joseph's and Liberty. Friday afternoon's contest against the Hawks starts at 3 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
