LYNCHBURG, VA. – A late goal from Charly Bruder kept North Carolina in the fight, but the team could never quite find the equalizer as it lost, 2-1, to Liberty on Sunday afternoon.

The No. 9 Tar Heels (7-5, 3-1 ACC) were unable to get into the flow of their offense until the fourth quarter when they were already down a pair of goals to the No. 17 Flames. Six of UNC's eight shots on the day were taken in the final frame.

Liberty scored both of their goals in the second quarter. The first was a transition goal poked in by Josefina Tomasi before Liz Bustillo put the home side up 2-0.

Carolina dominated possession for most of the second half, but didn't find their breakthrough until Bruder's signature power shot from a penalty corner cut the deficit in half. It was a big weekend for the senior captain, who scored four times in her two games.

UNC spent the final 10 minutes of the game with their goalkeeper pulled as they fought to tie the game, but Liberty's defense held strong and the Flames held on to win. It was the first time Carolina has lost in Lynchburg after winning the first four contests.

The Tar Heels finally return to the friendly confines of Karen Shelton Stadium for a pair of conference games next weekend against Boston College and Syracuse. Friday night's game against the Eagles is set for 6 p.m. ET and will celebrate the program's alumni.
