CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Four different North Carolina players scored as the Tar Heel men-s soccer team shut out UNC Asheville, 4-0, Wednesday night at soggy Fetzer Field. Matt Laycock had a goal and an assist for UNC, while Joey DiSalvo and Michael Bucy each had two assists in the steady rain that made footing a treacherous endeavor for players from both teams throughout the match.
Michael Ueltschey started in goal for Carolina and earned his third shutout of the season. He recorded four saves on the night, including a heads up save early in the game that prevented the Bulldogs from gaining any momentum against the Heels.
Caleb Norkus scored the first goal of the game for UNC, coming up with a loose ball in front of the net and scoring after assists from Bucy and Laycock at 15:21. Noz Yamauchi entered the game as a substitute at the 25:50 mark and scored nine seconds later, depositing the rebound of a Bucy shot in the back of the goal.
In the second half, Laycock scored at 50:37 off another loose ball in front of the net. DiSalvo and David Popp earned assists on the play. UNC-s leading scorer on the season, Chris Carrieri, tallied the final goal of the night, scoring off a beautiful free kick by DiSalvo.
