Men's Soccer Shuts Out N.C. State

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The University of North Carolina men's soccer team used three second-half goals to win a road Atlantic Coast Conference contest at NC State Sunday afternoon, 3-0, before a crowd of 1,225 at Method Road Soccer Stadium. Raleigh native Caleb Norkus scored Carolina's first two goals as the Tar Heels won its second consecutive game by shutout. Last Wednesday, Carolina downed UNC Asheville, 4-0, in Chapel Hill.
Carolina improves its record to 10-4 overall and 2-3 in the ACC with the victory, while the Wolfpack fall to 5-4-3 overall and 1-3-1 in conference play.
Norkus proved to be the offensive weapon for UNC after halftime. After a scoreless first half, Norkus found the back of the Wolfpack net at the 51:40 mark when he headed in a cross from Noz Yamauchi. Norkus put away his second goal of the day in the 63rd minute with an unassisted goal.
Only 1:06 after Norkus' second goal, the Tar Heels Michael Bucy added an insurance goal with the assist from Matt Crawford to wrap up the scoring at the 63:48 mark.
Michael Ueltschey picked up the shutout for UNC as he recorded five saves. Pack keeper Mitchell Watson finished the game with 10 saves.
Carolina outshot the Wolfpack, 22-6 on the day, and took 11 corner kicks to NC State's 4.
