General: Three-time returning letterman for the Tar Heels in the midfield...returning starter in the first midfield unit who looks to have a banner senior year for Carolina...a pre-season honorable mention All-America selection by Inside Lacrosse and Face-Off Magazine...will team with senior Bryant Will to help form one of the most formidable midfield units in college lacrosse...could also do some face-off work for this Tar Heels this season...missed the entirety of the 2002 campaign because of reconstructive knee surgery...would have competed for a starting spot as a true sophomore but tore an anterior cruciate ligament which led to the knee surgery...missed the entire season and took a red-shirt thus retaining three years of athletic eligibility...started for most of his freshman season in 2001...a speedster who can do it all whether it is disrupting the fast breaks of the opposing team or starting one of his own...a brilliant faceoff man in high school...is lethal with either hand and can bury the shot from long range or close range...his coach at the Gilman School, Dave Allan, said, "Lance's potential is unlimited."
2004 Season: Played in 14 games as a junior...finished sixth on the team in scoring with 26 points...scored 11 goals... had 15 assists (equaling the third-highest total on the team) and 19 ground balls...gave the Tar Heels a victory against arch-rival Duke with an overtime goal 1:03 into the extra period...had a goal and two assists against Johns Hopkins...had two goals and two assists in Carolina's victory over Limestone... scored three key goals, a career high, in a Tar Heel win against No. 6 Ohio State in the regular-season finale...had a goal and two assists in the NCAA win over Ohio State.
2003 Season: Had an outstanding season in his first year back after knee surgery...finished the year with 10 goals and three assists for 13 points...also had 19 ground balls...had two goals each in wins over Bucknell and Stony Brook...also had a goal and assist in the ACC Tournament semifinals against Virginia...had a career-high four ground balls against Duke.
2002 Season: Took a red-shirt year while recovering from knee surgery.
2001 Season: Ran in the first midfield unit for most of his freshman year...finished fifth on the team in scoring with 12 points and tied for fifth on the team in goals scored with eight...tied for fifth on the team with four assists...had two goals and one assist against Pfeiffer...scored two goals at UMBC and recorded two assists at Navy...also had single goals against Butler, Maryland, Virginia and against Duke in the ACC Tournament...added an assist against Duke in the regular season...won two faceoffs on the season...had 13 ground balls including three against Butler and Maryland and two against Bucknell.
Prep: Graduated from the Gilman School in Baltimore in June 2000...played three years of varsity lacrosse there as a midfielder...was also a safety on the varsity football team for three years and was a guard on the basketball squad for two years...was captain of the basketball team as a senior...named by the Baltimore Sun to the 2000 All-Baltimore City/County Boys Lacrosse Team...was also named All-MIAA, first-team All-Metro, first-team All-State and first-team All-America his senior year...had 35 goals and 12 assists as a senior at Gilman...won the team's ground ball award as a senior...as a junior, he scored 21 goals and had eight assists...scooped up 102 ground balls, the second highest total on the Gilman team, during his breakthrough senior season...his best game as a senior came against the Landon School when he won the first three faceoffs of the second half to spark a 6-0 run, scoring twice himself during the scoring spree...he also scored four goals in a come-from-behind 12-6 victory over Loyola...led Gilman to the 1998 and 2000 MIAA championships...received the team's 2000 ground ball award...named to the 1999 Bay State Team...as a senior in 2000 he was named first team All City-County, first team All-Metro, first team All-MIAA, first team All-State, first team All-Towson Times and first team MIAA All-America...won the team's ground ball award that year.
