General: A 2005 pre-season first-team All-America selection by Face Off Yearbook and Inside Lacrosse...2005 team captain along with three other seniors...a front runner for National Player of the Year honors this year...was on the Tewaaraton Trophy watch list as national player of the year as a sophomore, was one of the five finalists as a junior and was named to the watch list again this season...standout attackman who has started every game in his first three years at Carolina, leading the team in scoring each season...called by an opposing player "definitely the best person I guarded and the best attackman in the league."
2004 Season: Named first-team All-America by the USILA...notched All-ACC honors and was an All-ACC Tournament selection ... co-recipient of the Turnbull Trophy as the most valuable player for the Tar Heels ... selected as a finalist for the Tewaaraton Trophy as national player of the year, the first Tar Heel in history ever recognized as a finalist for the award ... led the Tar Heels in scoring with 41 goals and 15 assists for a total of 56 points...the 41 goals were the fifth-most in a single year in UNC history ... started all 15 games for the team, picking up 32 ground balls... scored a career high six goals and had a career high eight points in UNC's road win against Notre Dame ...was named ACC Player of the Week on March 15 after that effort...opened the season with a three-goal, one-assist effort against UMass in the season opener and was named ACC Player of the Week on March 1...on the Colorado trip, he had 2 and 1 against Denver and 3 and 1 versus Air Force ... had four goals in the overtime win against No. 5 Duke...had a hat trick on just five shots against Maryland...had three goals and one assist in the first Hopkins game...scored twice and added an assist and four ground balls versus UMBC...had 3 and 1 in the second game against UVa...exploded for 4 and 2 in the win over Limestone...had a 3 and 1 effort in the first win over Ohio State and 2 and 1 in the NCAA game against the Buckeyes...had back-to-back goals in the third quarter of the latter game that tied the contest and then put UNC ahead for good...finished off the season with 2 and 1 against Hopkins in the NCAA quarterfinals.
2003 Season: A third-team post-season All-America selection by the U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association...also an All-Atlantic Coast Conference choice...was a pre-season honorable mention All-America selection by Face Off Yearbook and Inside Lacrosse...finished the year as Carolina's leading scorer with 38 points on 25 goals and 13 assists...led the team in goals and tied for the team lead in assists...scored a goal in every game except the Maryland contest...equalled his then career high for points in a game with six in Carolina's win over Duke (4g, 2a)...had a career high three assists in a five-point effort against Johns Hopkins (2g, 3a)...had three goals and one assist in wins over Bucknell and Stony Brook...had a hat trick against Navy...had two goals and two assists as the Tar Heels topped Denver...had two goals and one assist against Ohio State...scored twice against UMBC and had one goal and one assist in games against Notre Dame and against Virginia in the ACC Tournament semifinals...had 41 ground balls on the season including a career high of seven in games against Bucknell and Air Force.
2002 Season: Was one of the top freshman players in the country in 2002...shared the Jay Gallagher Award as the outstanding freshman on the 2002 UNC lacrosse team...started all 13 games for the Tar Heels on the attack unit...led the Tar Heels in scoring with 34 points...tied for the team lead in goals with Andrew Lucas with 18 and in assists with Bryant Will with 16...had season highs for goals and points against UMBC with five goals and six points...had four other games with multiple goals, scoring three against Virginia and two each against Delaware, Denver and Fairfield...had two assists in a game six times--against Ohio State, Navy, Delaware, Denver, Fairfield and Hofstra...had a season high five ground balls against Bucknell.
Prep: Graduated in 2001 from McDonogh School in Owings Mills, Md....played four years of varsity lacrosse there on attack, including three as a starter, leading McDonogh to a state championship his sophomore year...was also a defender on the varsity soccer team for four years, starting three years and winning a pair of state titles...as a sophomore, he was on the McDonogh team which won the MIAA championship and he was named second team Baltimore Sun All-Metro on attack...as a junior he started on attack, was second-team All-Metro, second-team All-County and second-team All-State...was also named to the Bay State team...as a senior he started again, was the team captain, was the Baltimore Sun Metro Player of the Year, first-team All-Metro and an All-County, All-State and All-America selection on an MIAA runnerup team...was named the 2001 Metro Player of the Year by the Baltimore Sun...was also the Baltimore Sun's 2001 All-Baltimore City and County Player of the Year and made first team status on both teams...his high school coach, Jack Reed, had nothing but praise for him saying, "he played to exhaustion and left everything on the field. He's the best kid I've ever had."...accomplished tremendous feats during his senior season despite cracking a rib during an early season victory over Calvert Hall...won the C. Markland Kelly Award given to the player considered the state's best in lacrosse...spent most of his senior year double- and triple-teamed by the opposing team defenses...wore a protective flak jacket to prevent further injury to his rib cage...he scored 73 goals and had 46 assists in his senior year alone...spent his freshman year at small, private Guston School in Centreville, Md. before transferring to McDonogh as a sophomore...he ended his McDonogh career with an astonishing 178 goals and 111 assists.
Personal: Given name is Jed Burlingame Prossner...has three brothers...all three of his brothers also played college lacrosse...Mark was the captain of the 1997 Hobart lacrosse team...twin brothers Greg and Brent graduated in 1999 from Hobart and Lehigh, respectively, with Greg as the goalkeeper for the Statesmen and Brent playing midfield for the Mountain Hawks.
