General: An athletic 5-6, 155-pound attackman.
Prep: Played for coach Pat McDonough at the William Penn Charter School in Philadelphia...finished with 342 career points on 178 goals and 164 assists including 58 goals and 51 assists as a senior...also had 106 ground balls and 47 takeaways as a senior...named a 2011 Under Armour All-American and was tapped the #6 rising senior by Inside Lacrosse Magazine...led team to Inter-Ac Tournament title game as senior against Malvern...captain of lacrosse team his last two years...was a U.S. Lacrosse All-America in 2010 and 2011 as well as being named an All-State and All-InterAc League selection both years...he was the league's co-MVP as a senior...copped the team's MVP award as a junior...led his team in goals and assists in both 2008 and 2010 and in ground balls in 2010...his 50 goals and 48 assists powered Penn Charter to a state semifinal berth in 2008...had 48 goals and 46 assists as a junior and 22 goals and 19 assists as a sophomore...in club lacrosse, he has been named an UnderArmour Underclass All-America twice and was a 2010 ESPN Rise Warrior 40 Team selection...a two-year honor roll student...was also honored as a football player by being named All-City in Philadelphia and first-team All-InterAc...he doubled as both a wide receiver and defensive back for Penn Charter and was captain as senior.
Personal: Joseph Sam Sankey is the son of Harry and Sophie Sankey...was born February 7, 1992 in Warminster, Pa. ...business administration major...both of his older brothers played college lacrosse -- Harry at Widener where he was a captain of the team and Ryan at Cabrini.

Section #1 (Lacrosse Related)
1. The best thing about being a Tar Heel lacrosse player is that I am now part of a long line of Tar Heel tradition and am part of the Carolina family.
2. My favorite thing about competing for Coach Breschi is his seeing the passion and intensity he brings to the game every day.
3. Since last year the aspect of my training I've worked on the most is making one move and going to the net.
4. My best friend on another college lacrosse team is Ryan Sankey.
5. My greatest strength as a lacrosse player is my quickness.
Section #2 (Joey's Interests)
1. Away from the lacrosse field and academic pursuits I like to spend time with my family and friends.
2. The best movie I've seen recently is Inception.
3. If I could compete in another sport at UNC it would be basketball.
4. The music act I'd most like to see in person is Jay-Z.
5. The personal interest I have that might surprise my teammates is that I love playing any type of gym sport.
Section #3 (Food and Beverage)
1. After a game at Fetzer Field, I'd like to see a tailgate spread that included chicken parmesan sandwiches, chickies and Pete's crab fries, mozzarella sticks and a Shirley Temple with extra cherries.
2. My favorite beverage is a Shirley Temple with extra cherries.
3. My favorite food made by a relative is my mom's chicken parmesan and vodka penne sauce.
4. My favorite place to eat in Chapel Hill is Chipotle.
5. My favorite guilty pleasure food wise is a Friendly's Jim Dandy (five scoops of ice cream and four different toppings).

1. If I possessed the gift of time travel - I like this time period.
2. My most prized personal possessions are my two dogs.
3. If I could go to dinner with a famous person it would be Joe Costigan.
4. My dream job is being a college lacrosse coach.
