Heels Power Past Richmond, 10-0
February 17, 2026 | Baseball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – A pair of three-run homers and some shutout pitching helped North Carolina baseball roll to a 10-0 seven inning run-rule victory over Richmond on Tuesday in Boshamer Stadium.
Â
The Tar Heels (4-0) picked up their third straight win in "walk-off" fashion, sandwiching their 11th inning win over Indiana with a pair of mercy rule victories. It was also the team's first shutout of the season, another feather in the cap of a pitching staff that is proving to be one of the best in the country.
Â
The leading man on the bump was veteran left Kyle Percival, who returned to the mound for the first time since sustaining a season ending injury 347 days prior. The Lancaster, S.C. native finished his first outing back with 4.0 innings of shutout work with a pair of strikeouts.
Â
He was followed by a pair of freshmen in Talan Holiday and Jackson Rose who went an inning each, allowing just one baserunner each. Sophomore flamethrower Camron Seagraves finished out the game, not giving up a hit in his first appearance of 2026.
Â
The pitchers received tremendous support from the bats in this one. The Carolina offense scored nine runs in the first three frames, including six in the second innings alone, to take firm control of the contest.
Â
The first inning was highlighted by a pair of RBI doubles from Gavin Gallaher and Macon Winslow. Then it was a pair of three-run home runs in the second from Jake Schaffner and Winslow again that swung the momentum completely.
Â
Winslow came into the game fresh off his solo shot giving Carolina the series sweep on Saturday night. His first two swings on Tuesday resulted in a double off the wall and a 374-foot home run. The Duke transfer is making an immediate impact in Chapel Hill.
Â
The final run of the night was scored by Rom Kellis V, who has had two at-bats so far this season and doubled in both. A wild pitch plated the senior and completed the walk-off win.
Â
The Tar Heels are right back at it tomorrow night as they will face off against Longwood on Wednesday night in Boshamer Stadium. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. ET and streaming will once again be available on ACCNX.
