Strand Finishes 2nd In 1,500m; Men Tie For 17th At NCAAs

EUGENE, ORE. - The North Carolina men's track and field team posted its highest team finish at the outdoor national championships since 2007 as the Tar Heels tied for 17th with 16 points. The men's team finished in sixth in 2007.
Ethan Strand (3:47.33) earned his third straight All-America honors in the 1,500m as he was the national runner-up. Strand battled in the final 200m of the race. He was in the back of the pack, before he hit a final big kick, and fought his way to the front of the group as he crossed the finish line behind the champion, Nathan Green, by 0.07 seconds.
Strand (13:42.20) followed up the 1,500m by running the 5,000m alongside his teammate Colton Sands ( 13:36.26), who earned Second Team All-America honor as he finished twelfth in his outdoor championships debut. Strand finished in nineteenth.
