Track Earns Three Bids To NCAAs; Strand Doubles Up In 1500m & 5k
May 30, 2025 | Track & Field
JACKSONVILLE, N.C. – North Carolina earned three bids to the 2025 NCAA Outdoor Championships on the third day of the regionals.
In classic Ethan Strand fashion, he ran a strategic 1500m race (3:44.23), staying with the lead pack for the majority of the race, but as he has done in almost every race this year as soon as he ran around the last turn, he hit another gear and out kicked the heat. Strand finished in tenth overall, but won his heat which earned him a spot in the NCAA Championships. Aiden Neal (3:41.15) finished eighth in his heat and eighth overall, missing the cut for NCAAs.Â
Â
Strand (14:06.41) followed up his performance in the 1500m with another stellar race as he finished in second in his heat by one-hundredth in the men's 5,000m as he crossed the finish line fist bumping Marco Langdon from Villanova. Colton Sands (14:08.96) finished fifth in the same heat to earn his first career bid for the Outdoor National Championships.
