May 31, 2025 | Track & Field
JACKSONVILLE, N.C. – North Carolina track and field wrapped up regionals with three more tickets punched for the 2025 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Â
Taryn Parks (4:10.77) was the first Tar Heel runner to earn a spot in the national championships. Parks earned a berth in the 1500m to Oregon as she finished the first heat in fifth, earning an automatic qualifier. Â
ÂSydney Masciarelli (9:48.12) continued her incredible run in the 3000m steeplechase, earning her first career bid to Oregon. Masciarelli has moved up the steeplechase all-time list every single meet this season, starting outside of the top ten and now sitting alone in Carolina history.
ÂThe 2025 Indoor National Champion in the 800m, Makayla Paige (1:59.73), made history in multiple ways on the track. Paige lowered her 800m school record for a third time this season, taking third place. The senior became Head Coach Chris Miltenberg's first-ever women's 800m runner to break the sub-two barrier. Paige is returning to the National Championship, having finished in 14th place. Alyssa Hernandez (2:03.51) was the second runner outside of the top 12 as she took fourteenth.
The 4x400m relay squad, composed of Gwyneth Goldowski, Jocelyn Johnson, Delea Martins, and Makayla Paige, ran their best race of the season, achieving the third-fastest time in program history.
