Haugh One-Hits Boston College To Secure Series With Run-Rule Win
March 23, 2025 | Baseball
BRIGHTON, Mass. - Aidan Haugh held a no-hitter until the final batter in North Carolina's 10-0 run-rule win over Boston College on Sunday afternoon.
The Tar Heels (18-6, 4-5 ACC) secured the series win with an emphatic Sunday victory, racking up 10 runs on 13 hits to back up an absolute gem from Haugh.
The Sunday starter for the Diamond Heels was phenomenal once again, throwing a 7.0 inning complete game with 11 strikeouts, one walk, and one hit on 96 pitches. Haugh was throwing a no-hitter until the game's final at-bat, what would've the program's first since 1999 and the first by one pitcher since 1978.
He would lose the no-hit bid on a technicality, as a batted ball struck a Boston College runner (his lone walk) in the field of play. The runner was out and the game was over, but by NCAA rule the batter was awarded a single automatically.
The weird ending could not take away what was yet another stellar outing for the senior from Zebulon, N.C., who has been sensational for Carolina this season. Across his last three starts, he's only allowed three hits and two earned runs with 22 punchouts. His shutdown of the Eagles is the Tar Heel's first complete-game one-hitter since 2009.
Of course, a seven-inning complete game doesn't happen without some offense backing up their pitcher. Carolina wasted no time getting on the board in this one, coring two runs in the top of the first thanks to big hits from Hunter Stokely and Tyson Bass. Bass' RBI came off a two-out double that brought in Stokely.
They picked up where they left off in the second, as the Tar Heels put up a five spot to grab firm control of the contest. With the bases loaded, up stepped Stokely who delivered again with a two RBI single. Gavin Gallaher added one more before, guess who, Bass got a two RBI single of his own.
Two more RBIs from Kane Kepley sandwiched a Stokely solo shot and the Heels had enough for their second run-rule win of the season, both coming in conference play. It was Stokely's ninth home run of the year, most on the team and would put him in a tie for fourth in the conference.
The Tar Heels will look to stay hot with a big inter-state rivalry match upcoming on Tuesday against South Carolina. The game will be played at Charlotte's Truist Field at 7 p.m. ET. Streaming will be available on SEC Network Plus.
