Women’s Lacrosse Stays Undefeated Against Virginia Tech After 21-9 Victory

BLACKSBURG, VA. – The Humphrey sisters had a historic night and nine Tar Heels scored as UNC defeated Virginia Tech, 21-9, on Thursday night in Blacksburg. Nicole, Ashley and Chloe Humphrey all scored in the same game for the first time in their collegiate careers. Carolina unloaded on a 13-3 run over the second half to distance themselves from the Hokies.
The Tar Heels kept their undefeated streak alive and improved to 9-0 (5-0 ACC) while the Hokies fall to 7-4 (2-3 ACC).

How It Happened
- Kiley Mottice opened the scoring with her 14th goal of the season midway through the first quarter.
- After going down 3-1, UNC ripped off three straight goals from Olivia Vergano, Chloe Humphrey and Ashley Humphrey to go up 4-3. VT got one back and it was all tied at 4-4 at the end of 15 minutes.
- The game remained at a one-goal margin as the team's went back and forth. Marissa White put the Heels up 7-6 on an assist from C. Humphrey at 8:25 left in the half.
- O. Vergano posted a first-half hat trick and put the Heels up 8-6 with 4:42 left in the 2nd. It's the 28th hat trick of her career.
- A. Humphrey ended the first half with two goals and an assist.
- Carolina outshot VT 22-17 and more than doubled their shots-on-goal 17-8 in the first half but Hokies goalkeeper Aaliyah Jones made nine saves.
- Carolina jumped out to a strong start in the second half with four goals in the first six minutes to push their lead to 12-7.
- C. Humphrey netted her third of the game giving her hat tricks in eight-of-nine games this season.
- O. Vergano added another at 7:56 in the third for her fourth of the game, matching her season high against Virginia
- Eliza Osburn got on the board with a goal at 6:27 in the third and then added another on a beautiful solo effort at 5:34 in the fourth.
- The Heels outscored the Hokies 7-1 in the third.
- O. Vergano added another to give her a season-high five goals midway through the fourth.
- Kate Levy got on the board in the fourth and added another late for two goals on the night.
- Nicole Humphrey got on the scoreboard meaning all three Humphrey sisters scored in Blacksburg. That gave the Heels nine goal scorers against the Hokies.
