Women's Lacrosse Readies For Top-5 Clash At Northwestern

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – No. 2 North Carolina women's lacrosse heads to Evanston, Ill., for game two of a three-game road stretch on Thursday, March 27 to take on No. 3 Northwestern. First draw is set for 8 p.m. ET at Ryan Fieldhouse.

- This will be the 27th meeting all-time between North Carolina and Northwestern. The programs have split the series 13-13. The Wildcats lead the series in Evanston, 5-4.
- Through nine games, Carolina has outscored its opponents 165-49. UNC ranks second in both the ACC and NCAA in scoring offense with 18.33 goals per game.
- Carolina's defense has held opponents to 5.44 goals per game, which ranks first in both the ACC and NCAA. The team has yet to allow double-digit goals all year. UNC has kept its opponent scoreless in 10 quarters across nine games.
- Betty Nelson and Lexi Zenk have combined to give UNC a national-leading .585 save percentage. Nelson's 6.21 goals-against average ranks first in the ACC and NCAA. Â
- The Tar Heels set a season high with 35 shots on goal against Virginia Tech, bettering their previous high of 33 from the Virginia game on March 8.
- Carolina posted a season-low seven turnovers in Blacksburg against Virgnia Tech. Its previous season low was eight at Louisville in late February.
- With five assists at Virginia Tech, Ashley Humphrey matched her output of 38 assists from last season and tied herself at No. 8 on UNC's single-season assist list. She needs two assists to move into eighth on UNC's all-time assist list and six to move into seventh. Her 4.22 assists per game leads the country. She ranks first in career assists (206), assists per game (3.32) and points per game (5) among all active DI players.
- Chloe Humphrey continued her hot streak to open her redshirt freshman season. Her five goals at Virginia Tech was her ninth multi-goal outing in as many games and she posted a season best with eight shots on goal. Her 40 goals rank third in the league and seventh in the nation.
- Together, Ashley and Chloe Humphrey have combined for 56 goals, 47 assists and 103 points. That's 33.9%, 55.3% and 41.2% of UNC's total offensive production, respectively.Â
- Olivia Vergano put up season bests in goals (5), points (5), shots (7) and shots on goal (7) at Virginia Tech.The 2025 campaign marks 30 years of Carolina women's lacrosse, all under Levy. Over the past three decades, the Tar Heels have won three NCAA titles, seven ACC titles and 10 ACC regular season titles, including seven outright.Â
