North Carolina underclassmen Grant Roscich, Keaton Vo and Hampton Roberts combined to shoot 18 under par to lead the Tar Heels to a tie for third place after round one of the Amer Ari Invitational Thursday at the North Course at the Mauna Lani Resort on the Kohala Coast in Hawai'i.

Roscich, a freshman, led UNC with a 7-under-par 65, his best round of the season. Vo, a junior, also shot the lowest round of his collegiate career with a 6-under 66, and Roberts, a sophomore, had a 5-under 67, one off his best round as a Tar Heel.

The sixth-ranked Tar Heels are tied for third with Oregon at 20-under 268, six strokes behind day one leader Oklahoma State (-26) and four behind Arizona State (-24). Pepperdine and Pacific are tied for fifth (-17). Nineteen of the 20 teams in the tournament finished below par and 11 of the 20 shot 10 under or better.

Collectively, the five Tar Heel starters (Maxwell Ford shot 2 under and David Ford was 1 under) made two eagles, 25 birdies and eight bogeys.

Vo played bogey free en route to shooting 66, one stroke lower than his previous collegiate best, a 67 while playing for Texas in the 2022-23 Southwestern Invitational.

Roscich, competing in his fifth tournament as a Tar Heel, made seven birdies and an eagle on the 411 yard, par-4 13^th hole.

Sihan Sandhu, competing as an individual entry, shot even-par 72.

Oklahoma State's Preston Stout leads the individual standings with a 10-under 62, one stroke ahead of Oregon's Eric Doyle. Roscich is fifth and Vo is ninth with 36 holes to play.
