CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of North Carolina men's soccer team closed out a thriller by advancing on penalties, 6-5, against North Florida in the NCAA Championship first round on Thursday night at Dorrance Field. Both sides converted their first five penalties, but UNC's Gabriel Bracken Serra went wide in round six before Andrew Cordes saved UNF's sixth attempt. Luis Vera stepped up and buried the seventh penalty and UNF hit the bar to give UNC the victory.

UNC bounced back thanks to a bicycle kick equalizer by Jack Sandmeyer in the 70th minute before Dan Klink put the Heels ahead with a header in the 88th minute. Just when it looked like UNC was going to advance, UNF got a last second goal from Luc Granitur to tie things up and send it to OT.
The Heels had a couple of chances in OT, but the game headed to penalties and UNC was able to close it out.
The Tar Heels improved to 9-5-5, while the Ospreys finish their year at 12-5-2.
