Men’s Soccer Falls, 1-0, At Syracuse

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The University of North Carolina men's soccer team fell to Syracuse 1-0 on Saturday in New York. The Heels spent most of the match on the front foot and peppered Syracuse's keeper, but he was up to the task and made a number of excellent saves. The match was the first loss for Carolina in conference play.
The Tar Heels fell to 8-3-4 (2-1-4 ACC), while the Orange now sit at 7-6-2 (4-3-0 ACC).

How It Happened
- 7' – Nacho Abeal had a good look at goal but his shot went straight at the keeper.
- 15' – Abeal smacked a shot from range that knuckled and troubled the keeper but he was able to punch it away.
- 17' – Charlie Antonelius hit a screamer from outside the box that was heading for the top left corner but Syracuse's keeper made an outstanding save.
- 35' – Landon Darko found the bottom corner to give Syracuse a 1-0 lead.
- 41' – Luca Nikolai bent one around the wall on a free kick at the corner of the box but the keeper got down to keep it out.
- 46' – Abeal earned a free kick right outside the box, but Nikolai's shot was blocked.
- 61' – Antonelius took a long throw that bounced around the box but was eventually hit over the bar by Jack Sandmeyer.
- 72' – Andrew Czech broke through on goal but was pulled back for a free kick but Gabriel Bracken Serra just hit the free kick over.
- 83' – Syracuse's Chimere Omeze saw red for a terrible challenge on Charlie Antonelius.
- 88' – Luca Nikolai with a strike from the top of the box that forced another excellent save by Syracuse's Tomas Hut.
