Men’s Soccer Victorious In ACC Opener At Duke

DURHAM, N.C. – Martin Vician's game-winning goal in the 78th minute lifted North Carolina men's soccer (4-0-2, 1-0-0 ACC) over Duke (3-2-1, 1-1-0), 2-1, in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for the Tar Heels.
How It Happened
• Luke Thomas' shot on goal attempt in the fourth minute was blocked by Charlie Harper.
• In the 12th minute, Duke's Adam Luckhurst broke the scoring open, with assists credited to Trevor Burns and Colton Pleasants.
• Duke's Ulfur Bjornsson snuck past the Carolina backline in the 39th frame, sending a shot attempt off the post.
• Following a Sam Williams's free kick, Lucas Ross forced a shot past the Duke goalkeeper, tying the match at one-all before the half.
• Duke's Drew Kerr's shot attempt in the 67th hit the cross, keeping the score square at one.
• Vician took the lead for the Tar Heels in the 78th, hitting the bottom left corner of the goal.
• Duke's Burns received a red card in the 79th minute.
