Maxwell Ford shot 3 under par in the final round to lead the University of North Carolina to a four-stroke victory Monday in the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational at Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
Â
The win is Carolina's fifth team title in eight tournaments this season and the 20th in Andrew DiBitetto's seven years as head coach.
Â
The Tar Heels were the only team in the field to finish the 54-hole event under par. UNC shot 289-283-289 for a 3-under 861 total. Alabama, which led Carolina by seven shots after Saturday's first round, was second at 1 over par. Virginia was third at 4 over, Ohio State was fourth at 12 over and Duke finished fifth at 18 over.
Â
Carolina's Dylan Menante (73-71-72) and Austin Greaser (73-69-74) tied for sixth place at even-par 216, three shots behind the medalist, Deven Patel of Virginia.
Â
Peter Fountain (73-71-74) tied for 15th at 2-over 218, Maxwell Ford (79-72-69) tied for 20th at 4-over 220 and David Ford (70-77-76) tied for 32nd at 7-over 223.
