
Track And Field Find Success In Multiple Events On Day One Of Virginia Tech Challenge

Tar Heel track and field shined in multiple events on day one of the Virginia Tech Challenge.
In the women's 60-meter hurdles, freshman Kalani Witherspoon dominated her heat, setting a personal best of 8.50 seconds in the prelims, the fastest time of the meet. Meanwhile, Mackenzie Hartman achieved the third-best time at 8.59 seconds. However, in the final, Hartman secured second place overall with a time of 8.62 seconds, while Witherspoon finished eighth.
Shifting to the women's 800-meter race, Addison Pignetti claimed second place with a time of 2:15.27, closely followed by freshman Maameyaa Nyinah in third with a time of 2:17.08.
In the women's 400-meter event, Jocelyn Johnson set a personal record of 56.99 seconds, securing fourth place, while Gwyneth Goldowski finished seventh.
Turning to the women's weight throw, McKynzie Mauney matched her personal best with a throw of 15.10 meters, landing her in ninth place.
Friday's only men's competition for the Tar Heels was weight throw event, with sophomore duo Brayden Radhuber and Ty Castro both achieving personal records. Radhuber finished fifth while Castro secured seventh place.
The Tar Heels are back in action tomorrow in Blacksburg as they continue to compete in the Virginia Tech Challenge. Carolina will also be competing in South Bend at the Alex Wilson Invitational hosted by Notre Dame.Â
