Furman Advances In PKs Over Men’s Soccer In NCAA First Round

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – After a scoreless 110 minutes of play, Furman (9-3-6) advanced in penalty kicks over North Carolina (9-4-5), 5-3, Thursday evening in the first round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament.
How It Happened
• Furman sparked a scoring opportunity in the eighth minute, as Lloyd Wamu Snell's attempt was saved.
• After a Paladin foul outside the box, Tate Johnson's free kick attempt was denied.
• Just moments later in the 36th frame, Matthew Acosta collected a Furman turnover and sent a shot into the goalkeeper's hands.
• Just before the half, Sam Williams fed a corner kick to Riley Thomas, with his header being saved, entering the half with both teams scoreless.
• In the 55th minute, Parker O'Ferral sent a cross into the box to Martin Vician, followed by the Furman goalkeeper making the acrobatic save from the header try.
• Two minutes after, Wamu Snell rifled a shot from outside the box, corralled by Andrew Cordes.
• Wesley Siegel's shot from in front of the cage was denied by Cordes in the 59th.
• With five minutes remaining in regulation, Christian Kraus' shot in the bottom left corner was stopped.
• Wamu Snell's shot in the upper half of the goal in the 88th minute was saved.
