Burnett Shoots Pair of 67s At Valspar

North Carolina senior Ryan Burnett shot 4-under-par 67s in both rounds Monday to lead the Tar Heels to third place in the Valspar Collegiate Invitational at the Floridian Golf Club in Palm City, Fla.

Pepperdine leads after the first two rounds at 28-under 540. Arizona State is second at 14 under par, Carolina is third at minus 12, Florida State is nine under and Duke, Ohio State and Wake Forest are tied for fifth at 7 under. The Tar Heels shot 281 in the morning and 275, the second-lowest team score of the second round, in the afternoon.

Burnett is tied for third in the individual standings at 8-under par, five strokes behind Pepperdine's Dylan Menante. Clemson's Jacon Bridgeman is a shot behind Menante in second. Burnett made 10 birdies and two eagles over the two rounds today.

The 67s matched Burnett's low rounds of the season. It was the first time the Lafayette, Calif., native shot two rounds in the 60s in a tournament this season.

Freshman David Ford is tied for 11th place at 5-under 137 with rounds of 68-69. Fifth-year senior Ryan Gerard is tied for 15th at 138, which included a first-round 68. Junior Austin Greaser opened with a 78, but came back with a 69 in the second round.
