Men's Golf Finishes 4th At Amer Ari Invitational

Freshman David Ford Ties for Sixth Place
Ryan Gerard, Austin Greaser and David Ford combined to shoot 15 under par in the third and final round to lead the second-ranked University of North Carolina men's golf team to a fourth-place finish at the Amer Ari Invitational Saturday at the Hapuna Golf Course in Waimea, Hawai'i.
Carolina shot the third-lowest round of the day among the 19 teams in the field with a 15-under 273 to finish the 54-hole tournament 38-under 826.
Oklahoma State rallied with a final round 24-under 264 to edge Texas Tech by one stroke. The Cowboys won the title at 50 under par.
The Red Raiders were second at 49 under, Arizona State was third at 42 under, the Tar Heels were fourth at 38 under and Washington was fifth at 36 under.
Gerard shot a final-round 66, Greaser had a 67 and Ford a 68. Ford finished tied for sixth (70-64-68) at 14-under 202.
Ryan Burnett tied for 30th (6-under 210) after an even-par third-round 72. Gerard was 34th at 5-under 211, Greaser was 45th at 3-under-213 and Peter Fountain placed 55th at 2-under 214.
Gerard made seven birdies and only one bogey to shoot 66, his eighth round in the 60s in five tournaments this season. The 66 was one stroke off his season-best round.
Greaser led UNC today with eight birdies but also had one bogey and a double to finish 5-under 67. He was 5 over after Thursday's opening round before shooting 69-67 over the final 36 holes.
Ford had a bogey-free 68 today and made 13 birdies and only one bogey the last two days.
Carolina returns to action February 20-22 at the Watersound Intercollegiate in Panama City Beach, Fa.
