Dual Match Season Opens Saturday For #3 Women's Tennis

CHAPEL HILL - The No. 3 ranked North Carolina women's tennis team begins the dual match season this Saturday by hosting a doubleheader against Elon at 11 a.m. and Appalachian State at 3:30 p.m.
Fans are encouraged to attend and support the program, but are required to wear a mask. Fans will have the opportunity to participate in raffle giveaways that include men's basketball tickets, UNCÂ t-shirts and hats.
Carolina begins 2022 on a 48-match home winning streak having not taken a loss at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center since March 25, 2018. A pair of wins on Saturday would equal the program record of 50 straight home victories that was set between 2014-17.
Carolina has five ranked singles players on its roster - No. 5 Cameron Morra, No. 7 Reilly Tran, No. 13 Carson Tanguilig, No. 19 Fiona Crawley and No. 57 Anika Yarlagadda.Â
The doubles teams feature No. 1 Fiona Crawley and Elizabeth Scotty, No. 6 Morra and Tanguilig, No. 16 Crawley and Tran, No. 34 Alle Sanford and Tran, No. 41 Sanford and Kacie Harvey and No. 48 Crawley and Yarlagadda.
Elon posted a 17-5 overall record in 2021 and reached the CAA Semifinals last spring. The Phoenix return four all-conference selections, include first team standout Sibel Tanik and CAA Rookie of the Year Lizette Reding.Â
Appalachian State is under the direction of second-year head coach Ashleigh Antal. The Mountaineers were 6-14 last year. Ksenia Aleshina earned first team All-Sun Belt doubles honors as a freshman last season.Â
The Tar Heels host another in-state doubleheader on Tuesday, Jan. 18 with East Carolina and Campbell, and will welcome No. 4 Georgia on Saturday, Jan. 22 at 11 a.m.
