September 26, 2019 | Field Hockey
The top-ranked North Carolina field hockey team hits the road this weekend for a pair of games in Virginia. UNC bused north on Thursday after practice for a matchup Friday in Charlottesville, Va., against the fifth-ranked Virginia Cavaliers. After that it's on to Harrisonburg, Va., where UNC will meet James Madison on Sunday.
Â
Friday's game is set for 5 p.m. at UVa's Turf Field. The action will air live on the ACC Regional Sports Networks and on the FoxSportsGo app.
Â
The matchup with the Cavaliers is the second Atlantic Coast Conference contest of the season for the Tar Heels (7-0, 1-0 ACC), who beat Louisville 4-1 last Friday to open conference play. The Cavaliers are also 1-0 in the ACC after opening conference play last Friday with a 2-0 win at Syracuse. UVa is 7-1 overall with the only loss coming in strokes at Maryland on Sept. 13.
Â
The teams have faced no common opponents. Virginia's last outing was Tuesday, when the Cavaliers beat visiting James Madison 2-0 for their third shutout in a row.
Â
The Dukes are 3-5 overall following the loss to UVa. They are idle until the Tar Heels visit on Sunday for a noon game at JMU Field Hockey Complex.
