
UNC Wins Five At Day 1 Of Duke Invitational

DURHAM, N.C.- The North Carolina track and field team won five events Friday at the Duke Invitational, and the mens' 400-meter hurdles swept the top-three places to lead UNC on the first day of the meet. The invitational continues Saturday at Duke's Wallace Wade Stadium.
In the 1,500, senior Ashley Verplank won the women's race in 4:29.13, and freshman Jack Driggs took the men's race in 3:51.75. Carolina was also victorious on both sides in the 400-meter hurdle events, as senior Danielle Brock won the women's race in 1:00.30. The Tar Heel men swept the event, as junior Reynaldo Radlin won in 51.60, freshman Javonte Lipsey took second in 51.87, and sophomore Roy Smith finished third in 52.84.
Sophomore Sandi Morris won the women's pole vault after clearing 12-11 1/2, and freshman Cameron Overstreet took third in the event at 12-7 1/2.
UNC also had three top-eight finishers in the men's 5,000 as sophomore Isaac Presson ran a personal-best time of 14:00.75 to take third, sophomore Patrick Schellberg finished fifth in 14:03.14, and sophomore John Raneri also ran a personal-best time of 14:09.05 to take eighth.
There were more strong finishes in the field, as junior Kwabena Keene took third in the men's shot put (54-7 1/4), and freshman Nolan Cobb placed seventh (47-1 3/4). Freshman Brenden White took fourth in the men's triple jump (47-6 1/4), and junior Dylan Moore finished fifth in the high jump at 6-10 1/4. Freshman Kyle Cranston had a personal-best mark in the men's javelin throw, tossing 188-7 to take seventh in the event.
