
Tar Heels Excel At Florida Relays

GAINESVILLE, Fla.- Freshman Isaac Presson paced the Tar Heels at the first day of the Pepsi Florida Relays, recording the top time in the NCAA with a win the in men's 1,500 Friday. The two-day meet is being held at University of Florida's Percy Beard Track.
Presson won the 1,500 in 3:43.59, just outside of the top-five performances in the event in school history. That result is the fastest time in the nation so far this season. Freshman Patrick Schellberg took fifth in the event in 3:46.38.
Carolina had three women finish in the top eight in the 800 as junior Ashley Verplank took second in 2:08.17, junior Tasha Stanley finished third (2:08.84), and senior Dominique Jackson added an eighth place (2:10.28). The distance squad also saw sophomore Kendra Schaaf take fourth in the 5,000 (16:25.42) and freshman Alex Deir took fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:10.30.
In the men's 400, sophomore Clayton Parros finished fourth in 46.52 and senior Charles Cox took sixth in 46.54. Senior LaToya James grabbed eighth in the women's 100-meter hurdles in 13.66.
In the field events, senior Patience Coleman took fifth in the women's high jump with a height of 5-8 3/4, and senior Emory Parsons finished eighth in the men's discus throw with a distance of 170-8 1/2.
