
Tar Heels Wrap Up Competition At Duke And NC A&T

DURHAM, N.C. - The North Carolina track and field teams wrapped up competition Saturday at the Duke Invitational in Durham and at the Aggie Relays hosted by NC A&T in Greensboro. Vanneisha Ivy continued her stellar 2009 track season with another regional mark in the 100-meter hurdles on Saturday to lead a bevy of Tar Heels who reached regional marks over the weekend. The Tar Heels will host the Joe Hilton Tar Heel Invitational on Saturday, April 11 before traveling to Miami, Fla. for the ACC Championships the following weekend.
The trio of Tasha Stanley (2:06.70), Dominique Jackson (2:06.94) and Callie Pottinger (2:07.80) finished 1-2-3 in the 800-meter run as all three Tar Heels earned regional marks in the process. Addie Bracy opened her final season in Carolina blue with an impressive performance in the steeplechase as she posted a regional-qualifying time of 10:27.96, winning the event by nearly 12 seconds.
Sophomore All-America Patience Coleman cleared 5-10 in the high jump for the win and a regional mark. Gabby Gioia won the long jump with a top leap of 18-2 1/4 to win, while teammate Alexandra Coppadge finished just behind her with a jump of 17-9 3/4.
Adam Smith posted a sixth place finish in the 800 as he clocked a time of 1:53.23 on Saturday at Duke. Two spots behind Smith was Adam Cunningham who ran a 1:53.43. Meanwhile, the pole vaulting duo of Parker Smith and Scott Houston each reached qualifying marks as Smith finished in second place with a top jump of 17-0 3/4, while Houston cleared 16-6 3/4 for third. Daniel Keller finished fourth as he cleared 16-0 3/4 in the pole vault.
Meanwhile at the Aggie Relays in Greensboro, N.C., Vanneisha Ivy continued her strong season with another first place finish in the 100-meter hurdles as she clocked a 13.22. Notching a fourth-place finish of her own was LaToya James who clocked a 13.80. In the 400-meter hurdles Elizabeth Mott picked up a win as she tackled the course in 1:00.96. Malai Walker, Ashley Hill and Shardae Anderson all picked up top five finishes in the 100-meter dash as Walker claimed a second (11.98), Hill a third (12.00) and Anderson a fifth (12.07)
Austin Davis narrowly missed a regional mark in the long jump at 23-4 3/4 but was able to pick up a regional mark in the triple jump. The sophomore All-America cleared 50-4 for second place and a regional mark.
Shaunee Morgan led a strong Tar Heel contingent in the 400-meter dash as she placed third in 56.10 ahead of teammates Zoey Russell (5th, 56.11), Christine Johnson (7th, 56.57), and Cierra McGee (9th, 56.99). On the men's side Charles Cox ran a 47.37 in the 400 as he finished second, missing a regional mark but less than a second.
