FAYETTEVILLE, ARK. --- North Carolina sophomore Brie Felnagle ran the third-fastest indoor time in school history in the 3,000 meters Saturday to place fifth at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Randal Tyson Track Center on the campus of the University of Arkansas. Felnagle's impressive performance came on the heels of her part in Friday's national championship-winning and American record-setting distance medley relay, where she ran the anchor leg.
Felnagle posted a 9:14.21 in the 3,000 Saturday - just the second time she competed in the event this season - earning UNC four points in the team standings with her fifth-place finish. The Tar Heel women finished with 14 points to finish 16th overall. Felnagle last ran the 3,000 on Jan 20, when she recorded a 9:15.01 to automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships.
The ACC contributed three of the top five finishers in the event, which Texas Tech's Sally Kipyego won in 9:02.05. Felnagle, who was a cross country All-America in the fall, hails from Tacoma, Wash.
