
UNC Track And Field Opens Outdoor Slate

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. --- The University of North Carolina men's and women's track and field teams opened up the start of their outdoor seasons at the Wake Forest Open on Thursday as the three-day meet kicked off the first day of competition with the multis events.
The UNC men had three entrants begin competition in the decathlon as Mateo Sossah, Daniel Keller and Matthew Villemain took part in five events Thursday. Sossah finished the day in second position overall with a score of 3,641 points. He topped 800 points in two individual events on day one, the high jump (6-6 3/4) and the 400 meters (50.12). With the remaining five events to be completed Friday, Keller stands in seventh place overall with a 3,419-point total, while Villemain (3,060) sits in 15th position.
With a 2,922-point total through four events of the women's heptathlon, Alexandra Coppadge sits in fourth-place in the event after day one. The 100-meter hurdles proved to be her best showing of the day as she compiled 805 points with a 15.28 time.
