LACKSBURG, VA. --- In their final tune-up before the ACC Indoor Championships, athletes from North Carolina's men's and women's track and field teams turned in some impressive performances on the last day of the Virginia Tech Challenge held at Rector Field House.
The Carolina women received strong showings both on the track and in the field. A season-best performance from freshman Callie Pottinger in the women's 400 meters (55.87) gave her third place in the event for the Tar Heels.
As well, Tyra Johnson and Judith Bataille teamed up to take the second- and seventh-place spots, respectively, in the women's 200 meters. Johnson ran a 24.45 to come in the runner-up, while Bataille's 24.78 clocking moved her into the top 10 in the ACC in the event.
In the field, UNC had three more third-place finishers. Abby Kimball and Rhian Jenks both cleared 12-6 1/4 in the pole vault to tie for third in that event, and Jocelyn White put up a 55-5 mark in the weight throw to secure third place.
Performances of note on the men's side include the efforts of Reggie Berry and Nick Krouse. Berry finished sixth in the 200 meters, running a 21.67. Krouse, meanwhile, placed eighth in the men's 800, crossing the line in 1:54.52.
